Myths and Facts About Homeopathy

According to reports conducted by many prestigious organization and institutes, like World Health Organization (WHO) and Harvard Institute, the number of people using homoeopathy is increasing year after year. Still many people are reluctant to use homeopathy because of some unrealistic myths surrounding homeopathy. Here we have tried to clear some common myths about homoeopathy.

Myth 1: Homeopathy is an unproven science and not effective.

Fact: Homeopathy (also spelled homoeopathy) is based on experimental pharmacological and clinical data. Homoeopathic medicines have been extensively studied over the world for their efficacy and scientific researches show that the homeopathy medicines are effective. Millions of homeopathy users have received wonderful results, proving that homeopathy is effective. Homeopathy eradicates a disease from its root and provides long lasting cure.

Myth 2: Homeopathy increases the disease before curing.

Fact: This is not true. The whole idea of homeopathy increases the disease before curing is exaggerated. In only rare cases this has been observed, this is mainly because the medicines were not professionally prescribed.

Myth 3: Homoeopathy is slow to act and cannot be used in acute cases.

Fact: Homoeopathy is not slow in treating acute disease. The time taken for cure a disease depends on the nature and the chronic level of the disease. Unfortunately, many people start homoeopathy medication only when allopathic medicine has failed, by then their disease becomes chronic. Naturally, these chronic cases will take longer to treat. Also, there are some problems like arthritis, allergic asthma or skin conditions etc. which take a long time to treat with any system of medicines.

Myth 4: Homoeopathy can treat any disorder.

Fact: Like any other field of medicine, homoeopathy too has its limitations. For example, it cannot treat cases where surgery is unavoidable, dental cases, etc.

Myth 5: Diabetic patients should not take homoeopathy medicines (sugar pills).

Fact: Diabetic patients can take homeopathy medicines. The sugar pills contain minute amount of sugar which will not affect their health. In fact, the sugar intake in the daily diet is significantly higher than that taken by a few homeopathy sugar pills. Also in some cases, the homeopathy medicine is provided as liquid drops in water.

Myth 6: The homoeopath gives the same white sugar pills for all types of illness.

Fact: The white sugar pills serve as only a carrier of the medicine. In homeopathy there are about 3,000 medicine in 10 different potencies (power of medicines). A homeopathy doctor prepares the right combination of medicines and mixes it with the white sugar pills which serve as the carrier of the medicine.

Myth 7: Are there really no side effects of homoeopathic medicine?

Fact: Generally there are no side effects of homoeopathic medicine. However, some tinctures and triturates in very low potencies can have some minor side effects.

Myth 8: Homeopathic medicines contain steroids

Fact: There is no STEROIDS in homeopathic medicines. Homeopathy medicines are prepared from natural sources and they are completely safe.

Myth 9: Homeopathy cannot be taken along with other medications

Fact: Normally homeopathic medicines can be taken along with other medications without any fear of side effects and complications. Inform your homeopathy doctor if you are taking other medicines.

Myth 10: Homeopathy cannot help in certain cases like for warts, piles etc. Surgery is the only option.

Fact: Surgical treatment of conditions like warts, piles and kidney stones do not guarantee any form of long-lasting recovery. Homeopathic treatment can cure these problems and also eliminate the tendency to recurrence.
